Three Rules to Accessorizing like a Pro

Some women develop a distinct accessorizing style (such as “Vintage Ladylike”, “Badgirl Rocker Chic”, “Earthy Artsy Cool”, or “Beverly Hills Glamour”) and stick with it.  While others (like myself) are jewelry  Schitzophrenic and change styles according to their moods.  Others are Style Cameleons whose jewelry choices are based on where they’re travelling and with whom they’ll be seen.

I’ve always admired those ladies who have honed their style, fine-tuned their attitude, and curated their jewelry boxes to match their persona.  But frankly, for me, I would find it quite boring to pigeon hole myself that way.  Plus, since I’m in the biz, I like to model all my new creations!  Does being a Schitzo or a Cameleon mean you are wishy washy?  Absolutely not!  That’s the fun of jewelry and accessorizing.  There are no rules!  But there are guidelines that are always smart to follow if you want to look great. Here are my top 3:

1. Even if you change styles day to day, keep the style of the pieces you’re wearing together relatively consistent.  If you’re wearing a brown leather bracelet, match it with equally earthy earrings. Wear antique silver pieces with other antique silver pieces, and match a more glamourous crystal necklace with an equally glamourous bracelet.  You get the idea.
2. Don’t be afraid to mix high and low.  Wear your expensive “real” jewelry with less expensive trendier costume pieces.  As long as the style is in the same vein, wear them together.  This keeps everyone guessing what you paid!  I love wearing the fabulous gold and diamond necklace my husband gave me for our anniversary and layering it with the gold-plated “Falling Leaves” necklace from Housewives Jewelry.  Right away everyone assumes it’s all “real”.  How fun is that?!

3. Edit.  Remember what Coco Chanel said: “Before leaving the house, a lady should stop, look in the mirror, and remove one piece of jewelry”.  Wearing too much jewelry at once is committing fashion suicide!  Don’t let your jewelry steal the show.  YOU should be the center of attention.  Your jewelry’s role is to support your look and accent your beauty.  A little goes a long way.

Global looks are the hottest trend in jewelry...

The Real Housewives have become the style-makers and trend-setters of this decade. Especially when it comes to jewelry. Right now, the hottest trends are global looks like the jewelry worn by Countess LuAnn DeLeseppes on The Real Housewives of NYC. One example is the fabulously well-travelled look of the " Global Chic" necklace found at www.HousewivesJewelry.com. Wear it with the Marrakech Bangle (also by Housewives Jewelry) for a cohesively stylish look. http://www.housewivesjewelry.com/global-chic-necklace/
